Best Time to Visit Virginia Beach
The best time to visit Virginia Beach to experience all the oceanfront culture is from late May to early September. Of course, this is also peak season, so there will be larger crowds and higher hotel prices. Another great time to visit that will be better on your pocket book is between March and mid-May and mid-September and November. Prices will be more budget friendly and temperatures are still fairly comfortable. Do keep in mind that November varies and it can get cool.

Virginia Beach Boardwalk
While you’re there you can take a stroll, bike, or even skate down the boardwalk. There are plenty of things to see and places to eat along the VB Boardwalk.

VB Aquarium and Marine Science Center
A definite favorite of families is a day at the Aquarium and Adventure Park.

Mount Trashmore
Of course one of my favorite places is Mount Trashmore. I spent a lot of time here as a child and it’s even better now. Indeed there is something for everyone here. In addition to running up and down the mountain, children will love the playgrounds. The skate park will impress skateboard and BMX fans alike, and kite enthusiasts will be happy as well. Whether you are looking for active outdoor adventure or a quiet picnic date, Mount Trashmore is a great choice.

Surf & Rescue Museum
Another cool stop on the Boardwalk is the Surf & Rescue Museum. It features great historical architecture, as well as being educational.

King Neptune
Obviously if you visit Virginia Beach, you must check out the King Neptune statue! Another cool idea for seeing many of the sites on the Virginia Beach Boardwalk is to take a fun Scavenger Hunt!

Grommet Island Park

JT’s Grommet Island Beach Park and Playground For EveryBODY is the first of its kind in America: a 100% accessible oceanfront park. This beach park features wheelchair-accessible entrances and a wonderful playground that includes poured-in-place surfacing. In addition there are raised sand tables for sandcastle building at an accessible height, a sensory board for children who are autistic and visually impaired, and a sway boat.
Town Center

Just minutes from the Oceanfront, the exciting, vibrant, Town Center of Virginia Beach towers over the landscape, offering an expansive and impressive assortment of upscale shops, restaurants and more. Not to mention Town Center offers many options for entertainment year round. Not only can you enjoy outdoor concerts, and wine and beer festivals, but there is a weekly farmers market during the summer and much more.
Vibe District

One of the really cool things to do in Virginia Beach is to check out the absolutely amazing murals in the Vibe District of the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Better yet, why not take an Art Tour with Craft Beer Tasting to make it more fun!
Since 2015 the city has worked with over 150 artists to create over 100 works of art in the public domain areas, which is free and accessible 24 hours a day to anyone.

Fort Story

Fort Story is a truly hidden gem north of the Virginia Beach strip. Located on an active Army base, it’s not well-known to tourists…so it’s a great option for solitude!
Definitely check out the old and new Cape Henry lighthouses and their history. Additionally you can view old military vehicles, chase crabs, and enjoy having a beach practically to yourself!
First Landing State Park

Located right next to Fort Story is First Landing State Park. On April 26, 1607, the very first English settlers landed here and established the first elective government in English America. They then decided to move a bit further up the James River to establish Jamestown.
This 2,888-acre park fronts the Chesapeake Bay and features 1.25 miles of beach and more than 19 miles of hiking trails. In addition to camping cabins and campsites, there are picnic areas, and a swimming beach. You can also find boat ramps, kayak rentals and tours, as well.
Atlantic Fun Park

After a fun day at the beach you can head over the the Atlantic Fun Park for evening fun! The Park has a variety of rides that the whole family will enjoy. Definitely don’t miss the 100-foot-tall Ferris wheel for spectacular views of the Oceanfront. Plus there are kiddie rides, the rock wall and Spring Ride, as well as the Crazy Surf, Flying Bobs, Paratrooper, and more. Of course, don’t forget to stop at Kohr Brothers for fabulous frozen custard after.

It’s the perfect outing for kids and adults. Enjoy yourself at Ocean Breeze Waterpark racing down thrilling water slides and braving the wave pool. If you’re on a budget, you can take a self-guided tour of two levels of the ship, including the main deck, officers’ wardroom, galley, mess deck, chapel and sailors’ berthing. The Cavalier Hotel

Recently reopened after an extensive top-to-bottom multi-year restoration. The historic Cavalier Hotel is definitely worth visit. Even if only to admire its magnificent beauty that has stood the test of time. Since opening in 1927, the Cavalier has hosted 10 presidents and countless prominent and well known celebrities.
Today, the hotel has been meticulously restored to its original grandeur, blending the timeless luxury of a bygone era with the comfort, amenities and technology of today. In addition to the luxurious rooms and suites, there are three restaurants and distillery on the property as well.
