Yokohama, the bustling port city just south of Tokyo. It also a photographer’s paradise! From stunning landscapes to unique architecture, Yokohama has it all. If you’re looking for the best photo spots in Yokohama, then look no further. I have put together some of my favorites from my recent visit.

Of course the best thing about this list of amazing photo locations in Yokohama is that they are also some of the top things to do in Yokohama!

1) Yokohama CosmoWorld

The CosmoWorld amusement park is spread out along the waterfront in the Shinko District of Yokohama. Undoubtedly the CosmoWorld Ferris Wheel is the park’s top feature and has now become an iconic part of the Yokohama skyline. Its diameter is 100 meters, and the wheel is 112.5 meters tall. With its varying array of lights and colors, it’s stunning at nighttime. Thus making it a favorite of photographers. Additionally CosmoWorld features a variety of other rides to provide enjoyment for both kids and adults.

2) Sankeien Garden

Next, the lovely Sankeien Garden features ponds, bridges, and historic style buildings of Japan. It’s a great spot for nature photography in such a vibrant city. Definitely one of the more tranquil and relaxing of the best photo spots in Yokohama.

3) Yokohama’s Famous Chinatown

Yokohama’s vibrant Chinatown is not only Japan’s largest, but also one of the largest Chinatowns in the world. It’s obviously one of the best photo spots in Yokohama due to the vibrant and intricate architecture, but also because of it’s wonderful energetic vibe. Chinatown is a must see for anyone visiting Yokohama. Plus you can find a magnitude of street food and restaurant options to enjoy.

4) Kishamichi Promenade

Kishamichi Promenade is a lovely promenade that was originally part of a railway track used by Japan National Railways. The promenade has been transformed in a wonderful pedestrian walkway and still features some original components of the old railway. Additionally it offers great views of many skyscrapers and CosmoWorld, so capturing cool photos here is easy. Since it leads to the Yokohama World Porters shopping center and Yokohama CosmoWorld, it is a very popular destination for both locals and tourists.

5) Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse

These historic brick warehouses have been converted into shops and restaurants but still retain their original charm. They make for great photo backdrops especially during sunset when they’re bathed in warm golden light.

6) Marine & Walk Yokohama

After visiting the Red Brick District you must head over to Marine & Walk. Not only does it house a collection of lovely bistros, but also features waterfront boutiques. This open air style outdoor complex has lovely wooden decks, twinkling fairy lights, plants, and more. There are even outdoor heaters during winter. Marine & Walk is not your typical shopping mall and many photo opportunities can be found here.

7) Cup Noodles Museum

Yes, you read that right! The Cup Noodle Museum is not only fun for noodle lovers but also offers some quirky photo opportunities like posing with giant fake noodles or in front of vintage Cup Noodle advertisements.

8) Yokohama Bay Bridge

Of course it’s hard to miss the Yokohama Bay Bridge. This magnificent bridge crosses Tokyo Bay and is one of the best double decker suspension bridges in Japan. It is wonderful to see during the day, but if you’re lucky a night shot is superb!

9) Yamashita Park 

Another of the best photo spots in Yokohama is Yamashita Park. The park was the first seaside park in Japan and dates back to 1930. Its location by the Yokohama Port offers breathtaking views of the harbor and skyline. The park also has a beautiful rose garden and plenty of picnic areas. Yokohama also uses the park for fireworks display in the summer months.

10) Osanbashi Pier

This architectural wonder was renovated in 2002 and has been in service since the late 1800’s. In addition to being a great cruise ship terminal, it also has a rooftop deck known as Kujira-no-senaka (whale’s back), that affords stunning views of the port and Yokohama city skyline. Both cruise passengers and locals enjoy walking and relaxing on the rooftop to take in the views.

11)  Bankoku Bridge

Bankoku Bridge stretches across the river in the Minatomirai area, and as such offers an unparalleled view of the skyline there. What sets this photo opportunity apart, however, is how well the neon lights and light of the skyline reflect in the water here. It’s almost as if you can see a second upside down Minatomirai!

12) The Nippon Maru

This Nippon Maru is a popular tourist attraction and is known for its former use as a training ship. Not only is it spectacular to photograph at night, it is beautiful during the day as well. Visitors can explore the captain’s office, crew cabins and more while learning about the history of sailing.

13) Yokohama English Garden

If you love to take photographs of flowers then Yokohama English Gardens a perfect place for you. It is a beautiful garden with more than 1,000 roses. It’s a great place to visit any time of year, but especially in bloom between the end of March and the start of April when you can see the sakura (cherry blossoms) in bloom. Even if you’re not a photographer you will enjoy the peace and serenity you can find here. Additionally the park offers a store and cafe on site. Entry to the park is free.

14) Shin-Yokohamas Ramen Museum

Not only a cool photo spot, but a fun thing to do is the Shin-Yokohamas Ramen Museum. Here you can have fun learning about the history of Ramen, taste test a variety of types of Ramen, and snaps fun photos galore.

15) Gundam Factory

Lastly, a visit to the Gundam Factory purely for the fun of it is a must do. Why you ask? Because in 2020, for the Gundam 40th Anniversary, they created this amazing facility. It features an 18 meter life-size mobile Gundam, the RX-78F00. The biggest Gundam in the world! And did I mention he moves! If you visit the Gundam-Dock Tower you can see the robot in action up close on the 5th and 6th floor. Additionally you will also get a unique picturesque view of Yokohama from the tower. I mean come on, obviously this is one of the best photo spots in Yokohama. But don’t wait, as of now, it will only be around until March 31, 2024.
