Albuquerque, New Mexico, is another terrific Father’s Day getaway for Dad. The city is close to the Sandia Mountains and offers plenty of outdoor activities that Dad will love!

If your Dad is adventurous, he will enjoy a ride on the Sandia Peak Tramway, climbing to almost 11,000 ft. to enjoy amazing views. Better yet, take him on a Hot Air Balloon ride. Additionally, there are numerous options for hiking, cruising on Route 66, and gambling at Casinos!

Another of the Father’s Day getaway to consider for Dad is Asheville, North Carolina. Home to several craft beer breweries, it’s sure to be a hit. Most of the breweries also offer complimentary tours (with samples!) to visitors, as well.

The Asheville area is also known for hiking. No matter your skill level, there are hundreds of trails that cross the Blue Ridge Mountains. Additionally, you can check out the Biltmore Estate Trails or Linville Falls Plunge Basin Trail on a day trip.

Your Dad will love you if you take him to Austin! Not only will he enjoy some of the best BBQ and Tex-Mex food in the country, but Austin will also feature several craft breweries. You and Dad can also hike down one of Austin’s many hiking trails and then take a dip in an authentic Texas swimming hole. Some top spots to swim are Barton Springs Pool, Hamilton Pool, and Jacob’s Well.

Last but not least, Dad can take a tour of the Circuit of the Americas, the only Formula 1 race in the US. With so many amazing things to do in Austin, it is absolutely one of the best Father’s Day getaways.

You should read my Quick City Guide to Austin for all kinds of ideas of things to do in Austin.

In June, though, you can try deep-sea sport fishing, snorkeling, or swimming with whale sharks. Additionally, you can hike up the Pedregal, go zip-lining, or learn to stand paddle board. In the evenings, you can chow down on fish tacos and, depending on how hip your Dad is, party at El Squid Roe.

San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, is packed with golf courses for Dad to enjoy. But if you and your Dad are adventurous, there are plenty of fun things to do here. Cabo is famous for whale watching, but that is usually more prevalent in January.

List of Tips for Planning an Awesome Father’s Day Getaway for Dad

  • Plan Ahead: The first and most important tip for planning an awesome Father’s Day getaway is to start early. Don’t wait until the last minute to make reservations or book activities. This can lead to disappointment if things are fully booked or unavailable.
  • Consider Dad’s Interests First: When planning a Father’s Day getaway, it’s important to keep in mind what your dad enjoys. Is he an outdoor enthusiast? A foodie? A history buff? Choose activities and destinations that fit his interests and hobbies to make the trip truly special for him.
  • Don’t Forget to Take it Easy: While it’s essential to have activities planned, don’t forget to include some downtime for your dad to relax and recharge. This could be a spa day, a leisurely afternoon by the pool, or simply enjoying a nice meal together without rushing.
  • Surprise Him with Something Special: If you want to make this Father’s Day getaway unforgettable, consider doing something special with Dad. This could be tickets to his favorite sports team, a unique adventure activity, or a private dinner at a fancy restaurant. Planning a surprise adds an extra element of excitement and shows your dad just how much you care.
  • Seek Out Creative Accommodations: Why not think outside the box instead of booking a standard hotel room? Renting a beach house, staying in a cozy cabin, or even camping can make for a more unique and memorable experience. Plus, it can often be more cost-effective, allowing for more quality time together.
  • Don’t Stress About Perfection: It’s easy to get caught up in planning the perfect trip, but remember that spending quality time with your dad is the most important thing.

Wrap-Up

In wrapping up, it’s my hope that this article has offered you a good source of inspiration for the perfect Father’s Day getaway that will cherish and celebrate the bond you share with your dad.

Whether it’s venturing into the great outdoors for a bit of adventure or exploring new cities full of culture and cuisine, the time spent together is what truly matters. The experiences shared, and memories made during these getaways can strengthen relationships and create lasting impressions far beyond this special day.
