Welcome and thank you for joining me on this first entry of my new Positivity Corner section of the FollowSoots Blog. Because of the strange times we are experiencing due to the Coronavirus, I felt it was important to stay positive for my family, my friends and my readers. Therefore, periodically I will be including posts to remind us all to focus on what is good in our lives.
Our posts do include Affiliate Links and you can learn more on our Disclosures page.
First of all, bad things are going to happen. The current crisis will past, but there will probably be more that come our way. For that reason we need to have a plan in place to stay positive no matter what comes up in our lives. Even though, it may not sound like an easy thing to do, it is. The following simple steps are great way to start.
Maybe this sounds too simple, but it really does work. I’m not encouraging you to be fake, but sometimes you may need to fake the smile to get started. Why smile? Because smiles are contagious and your smile will entice others to smile too. Research has also shown that the simple act of smiling might actually make you feel better.
Listen to Music
I find that when I’m not feeling awesome, upbeat music makes all the difference. Almost every time I need to stay positive, I will listen to fun music. Keep in mind the type of music you’re listening to is what makes the difference. Consequently, listening to sad or angry music, may not help much. Therefore, turn on the fun dance music and go crazy, or destress with some tranquil tunes.
Similarly to upbeat music helping you to stay positive, so will exercise. Getting your heart rate up helps your body release endorphins. Medical News Today says, endorphins are chemicals produced naturally by the nervous system to cope with pain or stress. They are often called “feel-good” chemicals because they can act as a pain reliever and happiness booster. Hence, taking a brisk walk or hike, a run, swimming or jumping on the elliptical all will help. As I said in the previous section, dancing like a fool will work too.
Start a Gratitude Journal
Another way to stay positive in difficult times is to write down the things you are thankful for, even small things matter. This practice is a great thing to do daily and it truly helps keep those negative feelings from taking over.
Do Something Nice for Someone Else
Send a thank you or “Just Because” card to a friend or relative. Bake cookies for your neighbor or offer to help them with a project. There are so many ways to pay it forward and make someone’s day. Likewise, it will make your day better too.
Find Positive Inspiration
To stay positive you may need a little inspiration. Another idea to get through hard times is to read stories about others who have overcome great obstacles. Likewise reading positive quotes can be uplifting as well. One of my favorite quotes is by Dr. Suess, “Always remember you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, smarter than you think and twice as beautiful as you’ve ever imagined.” You can find more great quotes like this here.
Learn Something New
Before we finish, another way to stay positive is to increase your knowledge, Likewise, learning something new helps you feel accomplished and that boosts your self confidence. There are so many websites to learn from at home. You can learn Art, Photography, Design and more with MasterClass. In addition to this, you can Learn new languages on Babbel.com. Your positive attitude will continue if you take the time to invest in yourself.
In conclusion, we are always working to make the blog better. We want to make sure the content we provide is informative and fun! For that reason please leave a comment or reach out to us on our Contact page.
